A “pastry poem” (pirozhók) is a kind of a Russian haiku. Except funnier and much less high-brow.

It has a specific format and meter, but intentionally no rhymes. Capital letters and punctuation is usually dropped, but I left some in the translations to make them more readable (I also added stress marks to names). In any case, here are my favourite pirozhkis, enjoy!

висит на сцене в первом акте
in the first act the wall has on it
бензопила ведро и ёж
a chainsaw, hedgehogs, and a bin
заинтригован станиславский
deeply intrigued, old Stanislávsky
боится выйти в туалет
fears stepping out to go and pee
